Charlotte To Host 2017 PGA Championship

It's a "hole in one" for Charlotte and its Quail Hollow Club.

Today, PGA of America CEO Joe Steranka announced that Quail Hollow will host the PGA Championship in August 2017.

"Charlotte deserves this. Quail Hollow deserves it," Steranka said.

Along with The Masters, the U.S. Open, and the British Open, the PGA Championship is one of the four major championships in men's professional golf. By hosting the event, Charlotte and Quail Hollow will take center stage in the sporting world. "This is a big deal in North Carolina," says Governor Bev Perdue.

It will be the first major championship played in Charlotte and only the sixth in NC. Pinehurst No. 2 is the site of the US Open in 2014, the fourth major tournament on that course. Tanglewood Park in Clemmons hosted the 1974 PGA Championship.

Quail Hollow already hosts the highly successful Wells Fargo Championship, and will continue to do so through at least 2014.
