Asheville Named Top Place To Visit In 2011

As if a presidential vacation and the title of "Beer City, USA" weren't enough, Asheville has received another accolade from a top travel publisher.

Fodor's, which makes those famous travel guides, has named the North Carolina mountain city its Top Destination for 2011, topping places like Italy's Amalfi Coast and the sands and safaris of Mozambique.

“We are looking for places that are always going to be great places to visit, but specifically special in 2011,” says Fodor's publicist Meg Rushton. She said writers nominated various locations, and an editorial team reviewed the nominations and made selections.

The listing mentions the scenery, the shopping, the music, and the food and drink, and recommends a visit between late September and early November for fall foliage views. But here's a secret from us: Asheville is a great place to visit any time of the year.

Congratulations to Asheville for some well-deserved recognition!

Asheville is a great place to visit! Be sure to catch the NC Arboretum if you've never been.

Asheville has so much to offer, especially for the outdoor oriented types. Spectacular scenery, endless hiking, beautiful rivers, and awesome single track; it's the perfect city for our home base.
